I just spent the afternoon with one of my best friends, Jill, who is also a United Methodist pastor serving at Robinson Chapel in Fort Wayne. Jill, her husband, Bruce, and I have been good friends for - oh, about 20 years now. Jill and I went into the ministry about the same time. She was moved to the Fort Wayne area about two years before I came to Roanoke and I know that it was God's good blessing in my life to be appointed close to her and her family these past three years. We had a good time laying out by the pool, watching the Cubs, and spending time together over a meal.

The idea of the Trinity, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, who are both one and three is one of the most difficult realities of who God is for us human beings to understand. How can God be One and Three at the same time? I don't have a good answer for that question. Many, many books and articles have been written, studied, and read pondering the real nature of the Trinity. But thing I know for sure, our Triune God is a relational God and God's essence as a trinitarian God show us the importance of God's relational nature. God is relationship and we are created for relationship.

How are your relationships today? Do they reflect God's trinitarian relationship?
